The dialogue between the President and the entrepreneurs, which began around noon on August 18, lasted four and a half hours. The President emphasized the need to encourage and brand small businesses in particular to promote industrial development throughout the country. He also mentioned the successful economic growth in Japan since the end of World War II and emphasized Uzbekistan's strong determination to learn from preceding examples for further economic development of Uzbekistan.
JICA is also implementing cooperation aimed at supporting entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan. For example, JICA-MIIT’s joint project Uzbekistan-Japan Center (UJC) has been running several business courses, with the most popular one being Professional Management Program (PMP), which has been running for the last 22 years with more 2300 graduates. PMP focuses on the development of management skills and opening businesses in the future, making contributions to development of Uzbekistan.
Another example is the Horticulture value chain promotion project, where line of credit is extended to farmers and agriculture producers. So far more than 550 farmers enjoyed mini loans under this project, which aims to contribute to the social economic development of Uzbekistan through agricultural development, income generation and job creation.
