N Kazakhstan records population decline

The population of North Kazakhstan saw a decrease this year. The population decreased from 534,000 recorded last year to 530,100 as of January 1, 2024, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The rural population has significantly decreased. Some 259,300 people live in the cities, while 270,800 in rural settlements against 258,900 and 275,100 reported last year correspondingly.

Mortality still outnumbers birth rates. Last year there were born 5,572 babies, including 2,848 baby boys and 2,724 baby girls. More than 40% were born in the city of Petropavlovsk.

5,898 people died in North Kazakhstan in 2023. Circulatory diseases, respiratory diseases, diseases of the digestive system, tumors, accidents, poisonings, and traumas are among the leading causes of death.
