Since 20 January, 237 additional generators on the way to Ukraine as Japan’s relief supply, following the 25 units delivered last December. The total number of the generators from Japan to Ukraine will amount to 262 units in total.
The Russia’s attacks have not only affected the occupied territories in eastern Ukraine but have caused the destruction of a large part of energy infrastructure facilities across the country, resulting in severe power shortages that currently have disrupted the daily lives of the people and economic activities in Ukraine.
As temperatures in Ukraine are forecasted to drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius in some places this winter, the emergency recovery of power supply including for heating has been one of the major challenges to overcome.
These generators are to be utilized for immediately securing lifelines including heating to protect the lives of people who are in full-fledged winter. JICA will continue to actively support the recovery of the critical infrastructure severely damaged by the Russia’s attacks and the restoration of the lives of Ukraine people.
