On July 15, First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar had a meeting with President and Chief Executive Officer of Wabtec (Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation) Rafael Santana. The company is one of the global leaders in transport and logistics, included into the Fortune 500 list, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the press service of the Kazakh Government.
The sides discussed Wabtec's plans to produce new generation ‘green’ locomotives in Kazakhstan.
Roman Sklyar thanked the American side for the establishment of Wabtec Engineering Center on the ground of JSC Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty in Astana.
Rafael Santana assured that the center will specialize in production of locomotives based on alternative energy sources (liquified natural gas, hydrogen and rechargeable batteries), and in repair and maintenance of home-produced locomotives used in other countries (Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova).
At the end of the meeting, Roman Sklyar gave a number of instructions to the governmental agencies and organizations to address Wabtec’s initiatives.
