First Olympic gold medalist of Kazakhstan turns 60

Ski legend of Kazakhstan Vladimir Smirnov celebrates today his 60th anniversary, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The first Olympic champion of independent Kazakhstan Vladimir Smirnov was born on March 7, 1964, in Shchuchinsk, Akmola region.

Vladimir Smirnov is the 1994 Olympic champion, four-time world champion, four-time silver, and two-time bronze medalist of the Olympic Games. He also won 7 medals at the World Championships and 2 gold medals at the Asian Games.

He secured 30 victories at the World Cup stages.
