JICA President Tanaka Visited Uzbekistan

From January 19 to 23, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko visited the Republic of Uzbekistan, where he met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as well as key government officials and visited JICA’s cooperative projects.

During his meeting with President Mirziyoyev, President Tanaka reaffirmed JICA’s continued commitment to cooperation with Uzbekistan’s self-reliant development, which is essential to a free and open international order based on the rule of law. President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude for JICA’s contributions as a partner in Uzbekistan’s reform efforts, while exchanging views about the country’s development priorities.

At the signing ceremony for the Japanese ODA loan agreement (L/A) under the Health and Medical Service Improvement Project, President Tanaka highlighted JICA’s commitment to improving medical services through Japanese technology, including the establishment of the new Neurology and Stroke Center in Tashkent.

President Tanaka attended the launch ceremony of the Japan Career Portal, a website providing employment information for workers seeking opportunities in Japan, which was created by the Project for Development of Industrial Human Resources in Uzbekistan by Utilizing Employment Opportunities in Japan, a JICA technical cooperation project. He also visited the Uzbekistan-Japan Center for Human Development, engaging with entrepreneurs and participants trained through its business courses and confirming the strengthening of business networks between the two countries.

At the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), President Tanaka received an honorary doctorate. At the ceremony, he stressed the significance of international cooperation, particularly between Japan and Uzbekistan, in realizing human security amidst the compounded crises that the world faces.

In addition to the capital city of Tashkent, President Tanaka also visited Samarkand. At the Samarkand Agroinnovations and Research University, he inspected technical cooperation involving dried persimmon production, developed in collaboration with the NPO Japan-Uzbekistan Association and the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
